Childhood depression is different from the ‘blues’ a child might experience as everyday emotions that can naturally occur as a child develops. If a child is sad from time to time, this doesn’t necessarily mean they have significant children’s depression. Children’s depressive disorder is when life experiences of loss, anger, sadness or frustration outweigh a child’s ability to effectively cope with daily experiences and is characterised by a depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day.
