Children’s Ear Infections – Signs & Symptoms
Children’s ear infections are inflammation of the middle ear that also commonly involves inflammation of the eardrum and a build-up of fluid in the middle ear. Acute children’s ear infections are due to either a bacterial or viral infection, usually secondary to a children’s upper respiratory tract infection (cold’s, ‘flu or children’s whooping cough). It’s a common complaint in young children from 3 months to 3 years of age. The first symptom is usually a persistent severe children’s earache as the drum inflames and pressure builds up behind it.
