Chicken livers are a nutritious source of iron required for brain development.  Zinc for a robust immune system and vitamin B12 and folic acid for neurological development), and vitamin A (general healthy baby organ development).

Livers are also loaded with iron to give energy and a treasure trove of certain B vitamins, most notably B12. This nutritional profile makes them a good choice for increasing infant iron levels so they don’t become anaemic. Chicken livers are also one of the top sources of vitamin A, which helps eye health.

Chicken Livers with Pumpkin Purée

Difficulty: Beginner Prep Time 5 mins Cook Time 40 mins Total Time 45 mins



  1. In a small bowl, stand soak the livers in the milk for 30 minutes, drain and discard the milk.

  2. Cut the lobes of the liver into halves.

  3. Roast, boil or steam the pumpkin until tender.


    In a frying pan, add a drizzle of olive oil and cook the livers over medium heat until cooked through with no pink meat.

  4. Cool slightly before blending the livers and pumpkin until smooth.

  5. You can safely store this purée, covered, in the fridge for 1 to 2 days.
